Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

What is my role as a small group member?

There are three expectations as a Small Group member.

1. Attend all or the majority of the sessions. We recommend that you prepare for each session by watching the video before each meeting. However, the group will ultimately decide if they prefer to watch it together at the session or individually before the meeting.

2. The group, in advance, decides the time and day of each session. In fairness to all participants, we ask that members rotate a “hosting” role. The “host” is responsible for communication and organizing a location for the session. Groups can meet anywhere, homes, parks, restaurants, etc.

3. FOR NEW SMALL GROUP MEMBERS ONLY: At the meet and greet (Sunday, November 5, from 3:00pm- 5:00pm - location TBA) group members will choose a “facilitator” who is responsible for overall communication amongst group members. The facilitator will ensure all four sessions have been scheduled and will act as the “go to” person between the Small Group Chairs and the group.

What happens during a small group session?

The Small Groups material will be available on the temple website Monday, November 6, 2023.  The materials include a Small Groups Resource Booklet and four videos. The Resource Booklet includes text and questions that you can use to provide a direction for your groups’ discussion. Often thoughtful conversation can lead toward other meaningful subjects as a result of what you saw or read.  There will also be an evaluation at the end of each session.  The facilitator will ask that you complete this before you leave. The information we receive is invaluable to our future programming.

Who can participate?

Anyone, from any background. All are welcome. Our materials provide Jewish text, and resources.  Everyone’s unique life experience, knowledge and perspective deepens the discussions and connections.

What is the difference between a Small Group and a Chavurah?

Small Groups were created to be limited in scope and for the purpose of meeting and building more meaningful connections between its members.  Once the program has ended, if participants want to continue meeting as a Chavurah, then we encourage them to do so.
