Ivdu Et Hashem B’Simcha:
March 30th - Serve God with Joy, "Musical" Shabbat Morning Service

Led by Rabbi Marcia Tilchin and Rabbi K’vod Wieder
With Jason Feddy on Guitar and Ron Levy on Piano

Dear Friends,

In a previous communication, we announced that Rabbi/Cantor Marcia Tilchin will join me on the bima as our Hazzan for Conservative High Holy Day Services this coming fall. In our planning for the High Holy Days, we would like to make our service more musical by including three musicians - Ron Levy on Piano, Jason Feddy on Guitar, and Jackie Menter on Cello.

We don’t conceive of this as a performance in any way, but instead want to use musical enhancement to support our prayer and singing as we open to God and renew ourselves for the coming year.  While we are committed to offering a High Holy Day experience with traditional liturgy, our desire to enhance the experience with musical accompaniment is consistent with many Conservative synagogues across the country who are making similar decisions.

Since we know that this may be a new experience for some of our congregants, we want to invite you to a preview of the kind of style our High Holy Day service will be. On Saturday, March 30th at 9:15 am our musicians will join Rabbi Tilchin and myself as we lead a Shabbat service that will use music to support the prayer and liturgy in the same way we intend to use it on High Holy Days. We hope you will join us and then give us feedback on how the musical accompaniment  works or doesn’t work for you as we anticipate the High Holy Days.

While I am confident that this development will enhance our High Holy Day experience in more deep, meaningful, and joyous ways, our Conservative Ritual Committee wants to make sure to hear your input as we explore this new direction.

Blessings,
Rabbi K’vod
